Can I insure my child alone on a health plan?
A child age 0 to 17 will only be covered on his/her parent (s) plan. Children age 18 and over may be the primary insured on most health insurance plans
What are the premium rates on plans that JMMB Insurance Brokers Ltd (JMMBIB) source for its customers?
Rates specific to an individual or family, based on the age of the primary insured or oldest adult for an individual plan, may be obtained at the request a quote section of the website
Can I come in and pay the premiums monthly?
The premiums for the individual or family health plans may be paid monthly, preferably by means of a standing order. Most providers do not accept monthly cash payments.
What is meant by basic or annual benefit?
The basic or annual benefit is usually found in “two part health insurance plans”. The basic medical coverage is usually listed in the schedule of benefits with specific limits with no deductible and with or without co-insurance. Some of the benefits would be hospitalization, prescription drugs, diagnostic services etc.
The other part of the plan is the major medical. The cover usually carries a catastrophic limit which is broad, but a deductible must be paid before reimbursement of medical expenses.
In many of these plans, the basic benefit will re-new on the renewal date of the plan and if excessive medical expenses exhaust the benefit the excess may be paid by the health insurance company from the major medical as specified by the contract.
What is the annual or basic amount for Prescription drugs?
The annual amount for prescription drugs will vary depending on the health plan selected.
What is the annual amount for Dental and Optical?
Dental and Optical benefits normally vary depending on the plan selected.
Can I choose the benefits I want on the plan?
Some individual health plans provide options, so that one may select the option that has the benefits that suits their needs.
Group plans usually allow for more flexibility regarding choice of benefits.
What really is the difference between group health insurance and individual health insurance?
- Group insurance plans generally: provide cover for more that five (5) employees
- has lower premiums due to better spread of risk
- issued without providing medical evidence of health, because the large numbers usually create a balance between persons in good health and those in bad health
- all or some of the premiums are paid by the employer in employer/employee groups
- Individual health plans, usually: provide cover for individual and family who may not be on a group plan
- have higher premiums
- medical evidence of health must be provided
Can I insure persons other than my children (including legally adopted) and spouse on my plan?
NO
After I have used up my drugs limit does that mean I cannot get anymore benefits for prescription?
In a two-part plan the additional drug expenses is usually paid from the major medical portion of the plan after the deductible is met.
Can children over age 18 be insured on the BlueCare Plan?
Yes, children 18 and over may have their own health insurance plan. If an 18 year old is already on their parents plan, on reaching age 19 must provide evidence that they are students at a tertiary institution
Up to what age can I join a health plan?
Most health plans allow adults ages 18 and over to enroll
If I already have a health insurance plan can I join the BlueCare plan?
Yes. It is not a problem to have two health plans.
